In the past few months, we have seen our country - our world - undergo a series of changes and adjustments due to the global pandemic. However, there is a pandemic that has been around for hundreds of years here in America ---- RACISM.
Black people have been subjected to mistreatment by law enforcement & the justice system for far too long.
We have endured the social media real time videos of our people being murdered by those sworn to "protect and serve". We've watched countless hours of racist encounters with White America, and constantly heard about how "great" America used to be.
Quite frankly, America has never been considered "great" as it pertains to the Black experience.
The Village KC's Role
One thing is certain — our young people need the village now more than ever before. If we, as adults are working overtime to process and place these emotions, imagine what our children are going through. They need to know that the village will do everything in our power to protect them, and secure their futures... BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
The Village KC is committed to providing quality experiences through the arts, STEM activities, fitness initiatives, and mentorship to ensure that our teens are holistically well. They must be able to navigate through life with pride in their culture, confidence in their abilities, and knowledge of who they are.
We will work in tandem with other local organizations to help bridge the gap regarding technology barriers, food insecurity, and lack of access to resources in our community for basic needs.
With that said, take your place in the village. You may be on the front-lines, you may provide legal aid, you might be the caregiver ... whatever you are compelled to do, THE TIME IS NOW. Our Village is STRONG, our Village is capable, and our Village will win.
