Meeting The Needs of A Community
In April 2020, The Village KC, Inc, in partnership with Urban Community Connections, Youth Empowerment Readiness Organization, Inc, and The iMatter Experience delivered sack lunches to families with children in grades K-12th grade.
This initiative was started in direct response to the needs of families due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Delivery was twice a week, and was made available for families with K-12 students living in the Kansas City Public Schools, Center, Hickman Mills, Raytown, and Grandview, Missouri school district boundaries.
We delivered over 2000 meals to families during a 30 day period, thanks to gifts and volunteer hours from the community
Recognizing Our Youth
In May 2020, we launched an initiative to recognize high school graduates from all over the Greater Kansas City Area.
Students were recognized via social media and on the Village KC website. Ten students were randomly selected to receive gift bags with products/services from local black owned businesses. Thanks to JPamela Stills Photography, Monteils Skincare and Aromatherapy, Bling Boss KC Jewelry, Simmy and the Jets/Soul Sessions KC, Driven By Purpose LLC, Foundations Helping Hands Project, and HBCU Walking Billboard.
Preparing Our Students For A Successful School Year
In August 2020, we served 50 pre-registered families with this initiative. Families received school supplies, groceries, household items, and other community resources. Because of donations, we had enough school supplies left over to give away at the 816 Day Celebration! Once this initiative was over, we served over 200 students in the Greater Kansas City Area.
Thanks to Urban Community Connections, Life of The Party KC, Al-Inshirah Islamic Center, The iMatter Experience,, Babes For Change, the Nike Store- Legends location, and Foundations Helping Hands Project for their generous donations to this initiative.
Holiday Teen Gift Drive
October 1st - December 12th
Once teens age out of traditional gift giving programs, there aren't a lot of options for families that need additional help during the holiday season. Teens are often left out due to circumstances. We believe that EVERY child deserves to enjoy the holidays, and that's where "Joy in the Village" comes in!
We currently have 60 teen wish lists, and two school partnerships pending. Teens will be "adopted" by the community for the holidays, and gifts will be wrapped and delivered in December.
If you, your family, or your business/organization would like to sponsor a teen, click the link below and choose a wishlist. If you'd like to make a general monetary donation towards this program, click "make a donation".
